Phenyl salicylate, or salol, is a chemical substance, introduced in 1886 by Marceli Nencki of Basel.
P 1710 (OTTO) Phenyl salicylate, 99%+ Cas 118-55-8 - used in the prevention of sunburn. It reacts with o-toluidine in 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene to give the corresponding amide o-Salicylotoluide. Further, it is involved in the study to check the effect on crystal size with cooling rate in the laboratory. In addition to this, it is used in veterinary medicine and also employed for coating pills, in which the medicine is intended for enteric release salol.
