Gentiobiose is a disaccharide composed of two units of D-glucose joined with a β(1->6) linkage. It is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water or hot methanol. Gentiobiose is employed in the differentiation of microorganisms based on their metabolic properties. Gentiobiose was used in binding assays to determine if coelomic cytolytic factor 1 (CCF-1) binds to β-1,3-glucans to stimulate the pro-PO-activating system.
